Exercise Class Update – Natural Therapy Reforms
You may have seen or been notified by your Private Health Insurer that there are some changes coming in 2019 which will affect your ability to claim on certain things. These changes are known as the Natural Therapy Reforms. The reforms, which were decided upon by the Federal Government will mean that certain natural therapies, including Pilates will no longer receive PHI rebates.
The good news is that these reforms will not be applied to Physiotherapists who provide exercise to patients as part of their treatment plan.
Physiotherapy is recognised by the Federal Government, the Department of Health and Private Health Insurers as high-value, evidence-based care.
Therapeutic exercises delivered by physiotherapists are still eligible for rebates, however in order to avoid misunderstanding, the term “Pilates” will no longer be used, and, all class attendees will be required to have individualised clinical assessments.
You should always check with your own PHI to see whether you are covered. When you check your cover and for further questions regarding your rebates you can quote the following item codes:
Physio Exercise class – 560
Physio Ante-natal class – 595
Physio Post-natal class – 596
Physio Exercise Classes are a high-value, evidence-based complement to your physiotherapy treatment. This ensures your outcome is robust over the long-term. In our small group classes you will be guided back to the blueprint of your body, which is often lost through injuries, poor posture or bad habits. Our physio-led classes are tailored to the individual, and focus on education as well as carefully selected exercises to safely build strength, stability and flexibility.
Each week our classes have a different focus, such as pelvic floor, gluteals or posture, to ensure we cover every aspect of your body’s needs. The over-arching goal of our Physio Exercise Classes is to help you build and understand a fit, balanced and injury-resistant body.
In order to claim your classes under your Private Health Insurance (PHI), please check with your individual fund to confirm if you have cover for classes.
